How to Revamp your Bathroom on a Budget
In 2020, most of us spent more time in our houses than ever. So maybe you’re thinking about changing some things up. It’s spring, a time for new beginnings, right? But home renovation projects are time-consuming and expensive, you say? Here are some quick ways to revamp your bathroom on a budget.
Repaint
I know everyone says it, but they say it because it’s true. Putting a fresh coat of paint on the walls can really change a space. You can start by finding swatches of your favorite colors, or you can plan the repaint around a style or mood.
If you’re looking to open up the space and make your bathroom feel larger, paint the walls a nice neutral color like white, tan, or light gray. If you’re looking to get a little more adventurous, one of the big trends for 2021 is painting your rooms based on the mood you are trying to capture in that room.
Muted blue and green hues can create a relaxing effect, while yellows and oranges make a space feel more exciting. Richer tones like navy or burgundy can make your bathroom look elegant and sophisticated.
Get a New Light
The light in your bathroom determines the experience people have in that space. I just recently changed the light fixture in my bathroom because it had so many bulbs, it affected the temperature in there. But since I switched to a more stylish, eco-friendly fixture, I’ve noticed that it’s almost too dim in there now, and the new fixture throws shadows in areas where I didn’t know I needed that light.
Whether it’s for function or style, choosing a different light fixture is an easy way to upgrade the space. Be sure to take into account the available natural lighting; this can make a big difference in the style and brightness you’ll want to look for in your new fixture. If there isn’t much natural light in your bathroom, we recommend taking a few moments before you start shopping to think through where you need the most light to be, and what type and style of light fixture can help you achieve that.
Having a single, ornate fixture above the sink is simple and beautiful, but you may struggle to achieve the overall brightness in the room that is needed for fixing your hair and makeup or trimming your beard.
Update the Little Details
Another quick and relatively cheap way to change the look of your bathroom is to update the small pieces. Replace your towel racks or rings, toilet paper holders, mirrors, even the knobs on your shelf doors!
Come up with a budget – it doesn’t have to be extensive – of how much you want to spend on these small accessories, and then shop for inspiration on Pinterest or your favorite hardware store collections.
Doing this can refresh your bathroom’s look if it’s dated, or change the style altogether.
Swap Your Vanity for Something More Modern
Replacing your tub, shower, and toilet are the largest expenses when you remodel a bathroom. These pieces also tend to be the last thing on the list when it comes to “looking dated.” So leave those big-ticket items alone if you can, and instead update the look of your bathroom with a modern vanity.
